Video drivers WOES

Ok
I,m embarking on a new install hopefully kde or gnome.
The problem I can see is the video driver, Before I start even the lfs side has anyone had experiance with "ati Radeon xpress 200m" video card???

I have just installed ubuntu and that is causing nightmares with the video card.

I dont want to build all that way just to find video card wont work!!!

I have used that same GPU on various laptops on a number of linux distributions. I'd love you help, but you haven't actually told anyone what your problem is.

Not got to the problem yet, I dont want to build an lfs system then all through blfs then build gnome /kde to find that the graphics dont work properly, as i mention even in a mainstream distro there is a problem getting it to work properly compared to other graphic cards.

I've never had a problem getting it to work properly in any distro I've tried.

So, let me get this straight... Despite a subject of "Video driver WOOS" (I assume you mean woes), you're not actually having any problems with it at this time?

I have always had nvidia drivers so I can't comment on ATI but you might find this:http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...in-x11-402003/ useful, Slackware is very much a roll your own distro like LFS, the forums there are very good, I'm an ex-slacker.

The ATI Radeon XPress200M IGP is supported through the Mesa/X11 Gallium3D API "radeon" driver now, and has been well supported for quite some time. Remember, you will want to have at least a fallback setup for "vesa" and "fbdev" drivers for X11 when testing any driver setup, so build accordingly. Remember to also check your kernel configuration as you will have to enable "ati" and/or "radeon" support in the kernel. You also MAY be required to disable "modesetting" as well as this feature has been found to still have some problems with random pieces of hardware.

The Slackware HUGE kernel config can be effectively imported to LFS/BLFS with very good and broad range support vectors if you require a good proper kernel configuration, however as stated, the modesetting feature may be best disabled if at all possible.
