I assume that this is because the moderator or moderators who responded did not have the privilege to do all of that.

A single mod should have been able summarily to take care of it all: banning the account and removing not only that thread, but any other posts the spambot may have made.

As different mods are responsible for, and have privileges in, different subforums, I've had to individually report each of this other spambot's post for deletion. As some mods are more responsive to that than others, some of the spambot's posts are still there, with the spam payload intact. This won't do. The first mod to respond to the spambot should have been able to just remove every one of its posts, period, from every forum on LQ.

FWIW, the mod in question had the ability to close or remove the thread and chose not to. Members do not see roughly 99.99% of the spam attempts made, but there is always room for improvement here. As mentioned, a future upgrade will enable senior members to help remove spam from the site.

I do not consider an occasional spam post to be a problem. Even if it takes an entire day to remove it. Such rare occurrences do not disturb the "user experience." Frequent spam on the other hand, even if removed promptly, is intolerable. Given those criteria, I do not find spam to be much of a problem here.

I think they are doing a good job
there is very little that i see

a few here and there that i have reported
but all in all , better than other sites

Any forum that manages to 100% crack the spam/bot posting problem would make WAY more money selling that solution than actually running a forum!

Probably true. I'd guess we could block nearly 100%, but the impact that would have on legitimate content from new members would be far too great. It's a difficult balance.
