mic doesn't work

hi guys,
i have been trying to configure my mic on my laptop for quite some time now.
i have lenovo u260 laptop and i am using linuxmint distro.
i have every possibility of alsa configuration yet i didn't have any luck.

here are some check ups that i did:

Mics do not show up with the commands you have run. In fact, I know of a way to show a mic.

All that I have done, is use alsamixer to make sure the mic is not muted, and raised the capture level of the mic.

On a laptop I use the app Guvcview to test the web cam and audio capture. I have used Audacity to test and set audio capture levels.

Only other thing that can get in the way is Pulse Audio. I run Slackware, and Pulse is not installed. ( Personally I see no value in Pulse, it adds complexity I don't need ). You might have to look at Pulse to see if the mic is routed to your sound card.

Might not fix yours. But it fixed mine

i removed to pulse - it didn't work. i have installed audacity to monitor the mic, it seems that mic is recognised by the hardware, but it is only getting "whilte noise".
any suggestions?

Some things to do with Audacity. First of all, load a .wav file, or a .mp3 file, and make sure you can play it with audacity. That should work if your sound card and drivers are correct.

To test the mic, you need to record. ( Big red button ). For it to record anything more than white noise, you need the input volume turned up. You should see some activity in the Input Level Meters. To the right hand side of the meters, you will see two sliders. One is for audio out, the other is Input Volume. Move it to the right.

On the Edit tool bar, there are four drop downs on the right side. From left to right, Audio Host, Output Device, Input Device and Input Channels. I had to find the correct values for my system to get the ability to record from the mic. For my system:

Audio Host - ALSA
Output Device - HDA Nvidia analog
Input Device - HDA Nvidia analog
Input Channels - Mono

You may have to try different values on your system, depending on the audio card and driver you have. There are a lot of choices, for the mic I can record from the Anolog input, not from the other sources. The channels is probably less important. The mic is physically a single channel, so no need to record two channels. You can adjust the "project rate", mine is set to 44,100 Hz. This is the sampling rate, higher rates, better quality in the recorded output.

You should be able to press record, and see in real time the line slide, left to right, and the wave of the input being recorded.

Last thought, make sure you do not have any other sound application running on the system when trying to record with Audacity. It need the sound card to itself.

i know how audacity works, i used to provide support for audio recording studio that have integrated to open source tools.
Inregards to the matter, already try it - all the configs are the same as yours and i have only 2 options - it shows as if it works. yet when you play it, white noise is all that comes out of speakers
