I really want to dislike this thread, but I do see some merit to mentioning that Visio still doesnt work on Linux, and printer support is medium/poor at best. But other than that, I dont know, I think a linux vs windows thread isnt "really" a question.
I think you have almost sold me ... I can play games and install a printer easily ... yep can't think of anything else to do with a computer ... come on just one more thing and you might have me??

most of you are very sensetive. you should look into that.
And you should also look into the LQ Search function, which would have given you the "Windows Vs. Linux" thread, where you could contribute your valuable opinion.
If you dislike it, then don't use it. It's 'stuck around' for more than a decade, and pretty much every large company out there uses it, INSTEAD of Windows, for everything but desktop. And even that's getting replaced. Don't like Ubuntu? Load a different distro. Don't like the desktop? Load a different one. Don't like ANY of it? Then use the tools you have available FOR FREE, and write your own. There is nothing stopping you.
One thing that Linux does have is a great spell-checker. You should look into that.

i like my windows 8 instalation better because, i can play skyrim and REAL visio, not dia or some other crap. And additionally i installed a newer printer and it did not take a week searching through forums and websites to find a cups driver for it.
so i nmy experienve, windows is better than linux.
So...Windows is better because you can play Skyrim? If you want Visio on Linux, why don't you send an email/letter to the people who make it, and tell them to port it over? Why don't you contribute to Dia and add the features you want, instead of complaining? And if it took you a week to add a printer, you're doing something VERY wrong.
Again, if you don't like Linux, don't use it. There's nothing you seem to like, so stop there, use Windows 8, and enjoy. Personally, it takes MUCH longer to do anything in Windows than it does in Linux, and I've not touched MS products in over ten years.

Firerath: i like my ubuntu installation i use it alot.

Personally I'm not much of a gamer, so that is a none issue for myself.
But I did find Minecraft "ran better" on Linux than Win8
Regards Visio, It has been a long time but I did have it running fine with crossoverOffice, and as I was using it for work I was running it native in XP over a VPN/rdp most of the time.
sad to see printers are a problem. Personally I have an Epson R300 which was 'brand new' at the time. The only issue I had was CD/DVD tray printing which I think took me around 2hrs to "sort out". These days I have to do 'nothing' to configure it, well besides setting up the CD/DVD margins/hub which is a simple 'Wizard' --> save profile affair.
So at the moment you are yet to convince me that I would be better off with Win7/8
I might go on a Visio mission, I loved Visio, even after Microsoft shoehorned its "Office Pane" into it.
Im giving everyone +1 reputation for taking the time to explain to the OP that his usage problems, are HIS usage problems. "Don't blame the hammer for hitting yourself in the sack repeatedly."
I'm out tho, before this turns into an all out, useless, flame war. Take care all!

Well, this is not a technical question and it shouldn't be placed in the Linux - Newbie forum. Moreover I don't see any valuable discussion here. Sorry to all the contributors, but "Rule Zero" is applied here: I'm going to close this thread because I can do it. Nuff' said!
