It is also known as Mod4. It's on the bottom row usually to the left of the spacebar between the ctrl and alt keys.

Anyway, in this case it is not important, it was just a way of launching the nvidia settings program: you should be able to launch it from your desktop menu too.

How did you install the driver originally? It's possible that an update may have broken it, but I don't see anything outstanding on Launchpad. If you installed the driver through the repository, it's DKMS enabled, so any updates to the kernel will automatically rebuild the nvidia kernel module. If you installed the driver directly from the website, that won't happen, which means you have to rebuild it.

Hi rokytnji. Well it didn't work even though it seemed to load fine. I did get a note about no "xserver".
So I edited it as you suggested:

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-video-all
sudo reboot

This brought me back to where I was in the beginning. It was the only way I was able to get video.

I have a GTX 460 OC. So far, installing the newest drivers has been a complete pain. The only one working so far was the 304.51. Everything else.... I just didn't have a desktop anymore. Could only use terminal. I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.10 3 times now. Well, good think I have ambition and do now quit. Anyway, if you have any advice... that will not break my graphic drivers again... are really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Be sure and use the RIGHT driver for your

VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF104 [GeForce GTX 460] (rev a1)

As you can see. It makes a difference on what works on what card.

I received a "Udate notice" for Ubuntu today (8 Sept, 2013). It was for the driver situation being discussed here. It didn't work on my system with a EVGA GTX460 graphics board.
