Hi yooy,

Yes, the website of android source. But it has too many problems to match the versions of system software with each others.

you might be better off in http://www.androidquestions.org/forum.php

or
CyanogenMod
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Devices#vendor=;

select your device, and read
the CyanogenMod wiki will include details on how to get the source and compile for your device.
but..
for now I think you need to use the pre-built 'roms' , stay away from the 'nightly' builds and stick with stable until such a time as you know what is what

but if you have specific questions I can probably help you out.

that is not a specific question.

you have not stated your goals
you have not stated what device you have

your goal is important, if you just want 'the latest' then compiling is one way to achieve that
however, depending on things like your network speed, how much memory you have and 'speed' of CPU you are looking at 1 to 3 hrs to get the source code, then 2 to 5 hours to compile it
you will probably need around 50Gib fee space
At the end of the day, if you just want the latest, then using a pre-compiled ROM is much easier

The Device is important, you will need one with an unlocked bootloader

At the very least tell us what your device is

edit:
also need to know what version of Ubuntu you are using

Hi Firerat,

1. The goal is to recompile the source of Linux kernel.
2. The device is optional, Samsung, Lenovo, or anyone else.
3. The version of Ubuntu is optional also, 12.04, 11.10, or 10.04.

Could you prepare a laptop which is "ready" to recompile kernel for any specific device? Or you did it before?

I should have stated that answers such as
  • to compile android
  • to compile kernel
are not adequate

in my opinion
if you can't setup your toolchain, you are unlikely to be hacking kernel code, so no real point compiling a kernel
However, instructions here
http://source.android.com/source/building-kernels.html

do you own all of those devices?
why do you want to compile some random kernel for them?

all of those detailed here
full android build

just kernel

Yes, I can

yes , I have.. many times
Ubuntu 10.04 through to 12.10
Linux Mint 13 and 14
Debian wheezy and jessie
as well as others
laptop/desktop/vm,, it makes no difference, procedure is still the same and detailed here
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html

I started with the G1
I 'kanged' ( with the help of NameLessJedi ) the 'apps on sdext' feature of CM5 into CM6 and CM7, compiled for many devices that I didn't own
I called it Magpie, as Magpies steal shinny things
Uploaded changes to github, others integrated into their 'roms', and some provided bug fixes and features.
[NOTE]
Magpie is dead, no one really needs it any more, devices have plenty of storage ( well enough) and the native apps on sdcard is working better now than it was when introduced in Froyo.
[/NOTE]

before you come back asking the same open ended question
full android build
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
just kernel
http://source.android.com/source/building-kernels.html

also read device specifics on cyanogenMod wiki
example samsung's Galaxy Note
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Build_for_n7000

Great, you are the right experienced person.

Could you prepare a "ready" laptop installing Android OS to cellphone and mail it me?

By the way, where are you? I am in China or Canada.

As I mentioned before, I need other persons(not me) who did it before. Why don't you like to redo it once more for me? Tell me the reasons, so we may solve the problem.

1. I wonder what makes you so difficult?
2. Do you have one "ready" computer in your hand?
3. Do you have one cellphone which is installed Android OS by yourself?

Firerat,

If you did it before, just one step ahead and everything becomes easy. It is a really big help.
