Sending current window back using the keyboard - HOW?

Hello.

I'm hunting for a keyboard shortcut that will allow me to send a window back. What do I mean by sending a window back? Well, since I'm not sure whether all desktops have this feature, I'd better start by saying that I'm running Ubuntu Precise (12.04.2) and I'm using the default "Ubuntu" desktop. However, I do not have wobbly windows most likely because my laptop has a POS ATI graphics card. Apologies; I digress!

Anyway, on the setup above, when I middle click the window title, the window goes to the back and all other windows appear on top of that window. I do this quite often on windows in different locations and I'm trying to minimize dependency on mouse for this action. I was hoping that I could create a shortcut and map it to Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+Alt+Z so that I can easily do it with my left hand.

Any ideas anyone? I tried searching both here and on Google but couldn't locate such a configuration setting or where it has been asked for (if at all) before!

PS: Why is it that I'm given the option to add tags only to be told I cannot when I try to post ???

It's not quite the same, but an alternative would be using ALT-TAB as keyboard way to change focus to a different window.

I'd believe that Alt-Tab goes without saying surely, and although it does work, I prefer to see all other terminal sessions simultaneously.

The way I work is that I have a Firefox browser window maximixed and 4 terminal sessions running in the four corners. I can quickly access the full screen browser (and since I'm also using the TileTabs addon, they are really 4 browser windows as well) by clicking on the menu bar with the right mouse button and I can then quickly go back to the terminal sessions by middle-clicking the menu bar.

I know one would ask so, what's the problem with that? Well, when working in terminal sessions and you are intermittently looking at some reference material, it only makes sense to have a keyboard alternative as your hands are already on the keyboard as you code away!

I hope that illustrates my need for a keyboard shortcut better!

I see your need, given your workflow. You don't want to cycle through the windows; you want to be able to go quickly and directly to the one you need.

Unfortunately, I don't have a clue as to how to make this happen, but, given your detailed explanation, maybe someone will find this thread and enlighten both of us.
