OpenSSH installation -> OpenSSL headers missing

Hey guys,

I am running Linux Mint and I am trying to install OpenSSH 6.1 and I received the following error message when running ./configure
configure: error: *** OpenSSL headers missing - please install first or check config.log ***

I downloaded the source code from here: http://www.openssh.com/portable.html

Before running ./configure, i checked the INSTALL file and found the following prerequisites:
Zlib 1.1.4 or 1.2.1.2 or greater (ealier 1.2.x versions have problems):
http://www.gzip.org/zlib/

OpenSSL 0.9.6 or greater:
http://www.openssl.org/

I installed OpenSSL through apt-get (sudo apt-get install openssl), and I got version 1.0.1c.

I installed zlibc through:
sudo apt-get install zlibc zlib1g zlib1g-dev

Can you please help me out how to proceed? What could I check next?

Thanks!

You need to install openssl-dev as well.

Thank you so much for this. I am actually unable to login right now after a force restart, I'll try to fix it and get back to this forum later.

Cheers!
