How NOT to browse Windows network?

Hello,

I have network, mix of Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows XP boxes.

I don't know how to disable browsing shared Windows directories.

I tried to uninstall samba client, and using UFW tried to deny ports 137, 138, 139, and 145 (and restart network and UFW), but somehow I'm still able to browse those Windows shared folders.

Can you help me please how to solve this? Thank you in advance!

So you want to make it so the Ubuntu machine is completely unable to see shared Windows directories?

SMB shares operate over port 445 on Windows so you would need to block outgoing 445 on Linux. Also, Samba is a server but make sure smbclient is gone. You'll want to uninstall the cifs package if you have it installed. What application are you using to browse the shares? It's possible that the specific application you're using has its own built-in SMB client.
