My introduction and intention

Hi guys I am definitely a newbie to Linux and would love to know as much as there is to know about Linux so that I can navigate and use source to it's fullest.

In the meantime, have a read of the threads here in Newbie section, especially the many many(!) 'what's the best distro' threads.
Short answer; its up to you; there isn't a globally 'best' distro.

It depends what you want to use it for and learn from it. Sounds like you want to be able to either manage it or program within it.

I recommend both reading introductory books as well as playing with one or more distributions. Many times the book, or reference you read makes examples using a specific distribution, therefore loading that distribution is helpful. I also recommend that you just have a spare PC which you use to install Linux. There are a lot of Live distributions available which run from either CD or USB stick, I just learned from installing and using Linux on a spare PC until I learned enough about it to be able to consider more involved projects.
