Question AIX 5.2 support on older platforms

The AIX 5L v5.2 release notes provides a VERY good list of platforms UNSUPPORTED by v5.2 but states its not a complete list.
Has anybody seen a list of SUPPORTED platforms ?
I'm looking to acquire a used RS6000 to support some apps and need to ensure I have the 5.2 space covered.
Specifically, I have an F50 in mind.

The F50 is the oldest machine that runs 5.2. Anything newer will run it, anything older will not. You will be fine with an F50.

If when you do the AIX 5.2 installation, it doesn't see the CD as being bootable, you need to update the microcode on the server. You can get full instructions and download the microcode from here :

Iain,
Many thanks for this. In conversation with a colleague, he suggested that the F50 would only run 5.2 in 32bit mode, not 64bit mode.
Do you have any insight to that comment ?

He's quite right. The F50 is 32-bit hardware. H70s and newer servers are 64-bit and will run 64-bit AIX. However, the benefits of running a 64-bit kernel are actually pretty small unless your application has large memory and/or I/O requirements. In many cases, even for fairly large systems, 32 bit is still recommended. Remember that you can run 64 bit applications (e.g. Oracle 9.2 64 bit) with the 32 bit kernel and vice versa.
