undo rm *

hi there,

ROFL, linux for more than a year and then I do this stupid mistake out of nowhere.

I usually download .torrent files to a totally different folder than my $HOME and run

btlaunchmanycurses.py .

Anyhow, just this time I don't know what got me, I decided to download a few .torrents to my $HOME DIR and started to download the torrents. Afterwards I actually wanted to just delete the .torrent files and forgot the blue part I wrote down there

rm *.torrent

so it basically deleted a few script files, a few images and just little stuff that's annoying to lose.


is there anyway I can undo that

rm * ?

I have not added or deleted anything since that problem occurred.

Admittedly it's nearly all ext2/3, and if the partition has seen much writing since you deleted the files your chances diminish rather quickly. Best way to recover is to force remount the partition readonly or kill everything and do a fast shutdown and boot a cdr like Knoppix, FIRE, PSK or alike.

I just rewrote all my scripts, images i don't really worry about I guess...so I'm pretty much fine..I'll still read that link though that you gave me and hopefully this will be a lesson for me (don't be too quit with your ENTER key rofl)

No problem. Only piece of advice I'd give you and anyone is to at least try it once for instance using mc. Practice doesn't make perfect in case of undeletion, but having the skill will definately be an asset when necessary.
