What free games are available for Linux that are multiplayer and don't require OpenGL/DRI?. I'll take as many as you people are generous enough to provide links for. I have really become addicted to multiplayer games and so far, BZFlag has become my personal favorite. A good Linux RPG would definately be nice except that when I installed and ran Nethack (FalconsEye) it was too big for my screen because I use the 800 x 600.

Um.. and how are you playing bzflag? That needs the glx extension...
My DRI module simply refuses to load. I have tried a number of graphics cards, 2 different motherboards, different screen modes, modifying the XFree86 config file, etc and nothing has worked. I've been at this no less than about 6 months and have all but given up on the idea that I will ever be able to run some of the beautiful 3D games out there. My frame rate under "gears" totally sucks and even with all the reading I've done and messages I posated about this awhile back, it's just no use. One person told me that it was "just the nature" of my proprietary motherboad (Via chipset/E-Machine).
Anyway, I'd settle for any decent games (Multiplayer or otherwise). Thank's again.
EDIT: Oh BZFlag...hmmm...well glx loads but DRI does not. Also, I'm not running it with all the options but when I try, it gets really slow and jerky (just like TuxRacer, CUBE, FlightGear, etc).

what is your card? maybe dri wouldnt be the best drivers out there for your card. the DRI drivers, although open-source and semi-decent, should be traded for proprietary drivers that come from your vendor.

My card is an S3 ProSavage KM133 but I've tried many of them including a Voodoo 3.
I'm willing to try anything at this point. Whatever help I get will not go to waste and will be greatly appreciated.

Thank's but unfortunately I did'nt enjoy installing the drivers for my card and completely losing X (not your fault though). Even when I tried to "trick" Fedora into re-configuring my video card by switching cards and then going back to my original one, I still could'nt start X. Is there any easy way of sucking these drivers back off the CD's so I can get back to using my computer again (I'm using another vard at the moment that does'nt belong to me).

I'm getting a message at boot-up that tells me that it can't start the X-Server ("not set up correctly"). What happened earlier was that I had overwritten my current ProSavage KM133 driver files...
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/savage_drv.o
and...
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/savage_dri.so
...with ones that were for RedHat Linux 7-2/8.0 so I now have OLDER driver files and they do not work correctly. I'm running Fedora Linux (core 1#) and Gnome. Actually if I could just suck these two files back off the Fedora CD's or something, that would be great. Any ideas?

Those driver files come with the XFree86 packages. You could *probably* (note that I don't use redhat so I don't know how it screws things up) just reinstall the XFree86 package that came with your installation. There should be a filelist on one of those CDs (*should*), and you should be able to grep for savage:
e.g.:
Code:
grep savage filelist
I guess Fedora doesn't come with a file list.
Try:
Code:
rpm -l XFree86-package_name | grep -i savage
(there are a lot of XFree86 packages and I don't know where things are hidden in the Fedora rpms)
Alternatively, you could go to: http://xfree86.org and follow links, or go to (assuming your XFree86 version is 4.3.0 and your glibc version is 2.3--anyone know what Fedora Core 1 uses?): ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4....-ix86-glibc23/ and download xmod.tgz.
Then do the following:
Code:
mv xmod.tgz /some/temporary/space
tar zxvf xmod.tgz
cp lib/modules/drivers/savage_drv.o /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/savage_drv.o
I'm not actually sure where the savage_dri.o module is hidden. Even a google search doesn't turn up much. . .
P.S.
You really should try to keep your related threads down to one per topic. . .
I don't know who you are and it does'nt even matter. You have just solved a MAJOR problem that was about to drive me out of my everloving mind. Round and round and round I went...endlessly and all I was getting on other boards was a lot of malarchy. I know I sound overly-emotional/flakey but life is full of problems and when you can actually get one solved, it's reason to go dancing naked in the streets with a bottle of bubbly
