as a last resort, you might want to try another distro (Mandrake 10.1 !!!)

if it works with another distro, then u know that your slack system wasn;t configured properly, and if it doesn't then you know that the problem might be hardware related.

The only NVIDIA driver I have managed to get working with the 2.6 kernel is the 6111 version, and it needs a simple patch.

Are you sure that you've got a nvidia card???!!!

The error message suggests the installer didn't find any nvidia gpu in your system.
Plzz run "lspci" and post the output here.

his xorg.conf has this line:
Identifier "** NVIDIA (generic) [nv]"

unless this was added in manually it looks like an nvidia card was detected.

Try This

1. boot ---> login as root

2. Open treminal and type ............. init 3

3. sh NVIDIA........sh -q ...........(Go to your NVIDIA driver file)

4. mobprobe nvidia

5. sax2 -m 0=nvidia .......(ZERO not O)

6. Set setting in sax2

7. reboot
