Win a Gratis Pass to OSCON 2012 Courtesy of LQ
We're happy to announce that as part of the LQ Birthday Celebration, we've teamed up with O'Reilly to be able to offer a completely gratis pass to OSCON 2012 in Portland, OR (a $1,345 value). Please keep in mind that travel and hotel are not included. To be eligible, respond to this thread with why you'd like to attend and how you think you'd benefit from attending. We'll randomly pick a response on July 11th and that member will be able to attend OSCON 2012 on us. OSCON is always a great event and LQ will once again be in attendance. Please only respond if you are willing and able to attend the conference, which is July 18-20. Thanks and good luck.

Am I too late, I suppose? I've been a bit busy and neglected LQ for a few weeks (my bad!). No other responses so far. No only can I attend but I live very close to Portland.

I'm looking forward to some of the quantified self / health hacking sessions in the healthcare track, as well as Kafka and Storm sessions in data track.

I would LOVE to attend OSCON this year! I am software developer who lives in Portland. I have been doing software development for about 5 years, before that I was a Quality Assurance Engineer. I love learning about new technologies and I attended OSCON two years ago and had a great time. I am just about to embark on a complete redesign of a web app product and I need all the insight into new web technologies and database backend infrastructure I can get. I am also an Arduino newbie and I would love to attend some open source hardware sessions.
During the conference, I will keep the community posted via twitter at @aprilsluckkitty. After the conference I will make a post about the great sessions I attended, what I learned and the big takeaways from the conference.
I am not a slacker when it comes to conferences. Besides attending a full day of sessions, I attend any after-hours events that are listed, and I network and chat with my fellow attendees as much as possible. I will be a sponge at OSCON, who's mission is to absorb as much information as possible.
Thanks for offering a ticket to OSCON this year as part of your Birthday celebration. This ticket is worth a lot to me and I would be honored to represent and report back to the community.

I am ashish from India & being able to attend OSCON has been one of my long time dreams. I am kind of new to open source & even though i have been using ubuntu for the last 2-3 years, i am stuck at the stage of using open source, but not contributing to open-source.
I am passionate about using technology & open source to help solve societal problems - especially in education (e.g. KhanAcademy, ) & healthcare (OpenMRS).I feel attending OSCON will spur me to learn new technologies & spur me in my goal to contribute back to opensource, in projects, that i am excited & passionate about.
I am passionate about connecting with other people passionate about technology & linux, & sharing stuff ( facebook.com/ashish0007, twitter.com/tux_geek, reddit.com/user/tgca, ), & if given this opportunity, i would share my learnings & experiences from OSCON in the form of blog posts, videos, tweets, etc
Congrats Jeremy & the LQ team on our 12th anniversary & thank you to OReilly & you, for enabling one of us LQ readersto attend
OSCON. Have a great OSCON 2012.
cheers,
ashish makani

DANGIT! I have to pay attention to your posts more often Jeremy... Congrats aj34! I will ask that you post on LQ about how it went for you and give others some insight onto the convention that may have never been or are interested in going such as myself. Just a request.
Thank you Jeremy for giving me another reason to tell people why LQ is so awesome..

I would like to attend because it's been 102F minimum here for a month and I'd be the happiest person in Oregon
