Realplayer Alternative?
Does anyone know of a program for Linux that has the same use as Realplayer, like downloader, and all that jazz. Seeing as Realplayer is no longer supported for Linux. Or if someone could walk me through the download I would appreciate it. Thanks!

If you are looking for something for real formats, your best bet is the Helix archive.
https://player.helixcommunity.org/2005/downloads/
You can download sources and compile it for your system. I installed the *.rpm version on my Slackware box using Slackware's rpm2tgz utility (first time I ever used it--I want my Old Time Radio!).
I also found this: http://europe.real.com/realplayer/other-versions
I downloaded the *.deb (UK English). It seems to be a valid download but I couldn't install it on the computer I was using because the package is 32-bit and the computer isn't. If you have a 32-bit machine, it's worth a look.
As regards the integrated downloads and stuff like that there, I've never had any desire to do that stuff, so someone else will have to address that question.

AFAIK Realplayer for linux doesnt support all the extra add-on junk like downloading the windows versions do.
All realplayer for linux/helix player does is play realplayer format files.

I tend to use wget for downloading larger files, like videos. It allows you to stop downloads and resume later, has a speed setting to prevent it using all your bandwidth and a quota if you need it.

JDownloader is totally different.
Realplayer would let you save steams, Jdownloader is for sites like rapidshare.

JDownloader can download Youtube videos and supports encoding to different formats. I use it sometimes to make mp3s from Youtube videos.

It is actually pretty easy, just set up JDownloader to watch the clipboard, then right-click on the Youtube video and select "Copy video URL". JDownloader will check the URL and give you some options which type you want to download (IIRC MP4, WebM, Flash and MP3).
