unmet dependencies

Hello All,

I cannot install anything on my Debian system, because of the following :

Code:
# apt-get install locales
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libc-dev-bin : Depends: libc6 (< 2.12) but 2.13-20ubuntu5.1 is to be installed
libc6 : Depends: libc-bin (= 2.13-20ubuntu5.1) but it is not going to be installed
 libc6-dev : Depends: libc6 (= 2.11.3-2) but 2.13-20ubuntu5.1 is to be installed
 locales : Depends: glibc-2.11-1
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
And when I try to install it using the .deb file, I get :
Code:
# dpkg -i libc6_2.11.3-2_amd64.deb
dpkg: warning: 'ldconfig' not found in PATH or not executable.
dpkg: 1 expected program not found in PATH or not executable.
NB: root's PATH should usually contain /usr/local/sbin, /usr/sbin and /sbin.
Could you please help me on this please ?

PS.
# cat /etc/apt/sources.list

The problem is that you are trying to manually install an Ubuntu package rather than installing from the Debian Squeeze repos using aptitude, apt-get, synaptic, etc.

Code:
apt-get -f install
apt-get update
apt-get install libc6

thank you snowpine for the quick reply,
i google for that and i am afraid of doing that as this is what comes up, is there any chance that i lose any settings configured on this box as many users use it? :

Code:
# apt-get -f install

Yup, that looks pretty bad. My advice is to wait for advice from one of our resident Debian experts like craigevil.

Remove any Ubuntu packages you installed.

Also check your sources.list, at one point you either added Ubuntu repos or manually installed Ubuntu packages.

Do not install Ubuntu packages on Debian unless you want a broken system.

At this point your system is broken you would probably be better off reinstalling.

Thank you All,

the case is that I installed manually Ubuntu packages (it was morning with no clear mind at all),
because I didn't had any connection to the Internet, now I am using a proxy by ssh-tunneling.

How can I see the installed ubuntu packages ?

Many Thanks.

* libc was for sure

ok, found it

the issue is now that when i am trying to remove the packages, i get the following :

# dpkg -r libc-bin
dpkg: warning: 'ldconfig' not found in PATH or not executable.
dpkg: 1 expected program not found in PATH or not executable.
NB: root's PATH should usually contain /usr/local/sbin, /usr/sbin and /sbin.

how can i surpass this ?
