[SOLVED] Can't see files/folder on a formatted ext4 hard drive.

I just transferred files restarted and no issue, let see what happens.

You should not have to restart to see the files. Hopefully you are on the way to a cure for this.

Just because this is the type of thing that I over look, have you pulled and reinserted the usb cable ends a couple times apiece to make sure they are clean?

Thanks for the advice widget : I checked the usb cables and everything is fine, I restarted just for a test even tried shutdown and powered up again. The files are there.

That sounds good. Could all have been some kind of glitch in your FM.

If so it is hopefully a one time thing.

I don't know what version of Debian you are using but Wheezy and Sid are using Gnome3 now and I don't like the "feel" of Nautilus anymore at all. I am only using it on Sid.

Switched my testing to Xfce and have both Gnome and Xfce on Sid. Prefer Xfce on both.

Thunar is pretty good. Now that I have found the "Custom Action" possibilities of it I would rather use it than the new Nautilus.

I can use Gnome Shell but prefer the panel system. Xfce4.8 (testing and Sid) is superiour, in my opinion, to the old Gnome panel system by quite a ways. There is a learning curve but not to steep and pretty fast.

Could it be you disconnected the drive without unmouting properly?

Just my two pennarth; it sounds to me like you may have (tried to) created the partition whilst it was still mounted, sometimes it looks like you have formatted & copied to the partition, but on rebooting, everything is as it was before.

Or, perhaps the kernel was still using the old file system table.

Thanks guys for everything. Presently no issues detected. I really was not able to point exactly to the problem.
