Warcraft III under Wine/Play on Linux - cinematics troubles

I've got Wine and PoL installed under Slackware 13.37 running a customised 3.2.2 kernel and the NV binary driver.

Warcraft III is working very well in all respects except for the fact that the cinematics cause things to go haywire. I get sound with a blank screen which has a lo-res version of my desktop panel at the bottom.

Is there a specific setting or DLL file needed to make them work properly? A Google search gave me more questions than answers. I can't seem to see anything useful in PoL's log files either.

Any advice appreciated.
