Linux Puppy on USB?

Live cd/dvd's are great as well as using virtual machines such as virtualbox, vmplayer or even virtualpc. You don't have to install to traditional devices unless you want to. Virtual machines are free and easy ways to run many OS's on supported machines.

I personally already installed Puppy 2 times on usb
a) start the puppy CD and click the install menu inside the live puppy CD
b) install another distro (TinyCoreLinux from the CD Multicore with ext2 format); then extend the extlinux.conf file and install manually all puppy versions (warry/slacko/puppy) as multiboot menu (by extracting all files from the puppy...iso with isomaster and putting them manually on the USB)
So, if you need few help for b), ask again. But a) should be enough.
But: why do you want puppy? is there any reason? only because you want an usb for a netbook and you think puppy is the best distro for it? if I remember, the best feeling (in term of quick sucess; not performance) I had with live distro on usb was with partedmagic, archbang, knoppix, puppy. In term of performance, I use TinyCoreLinux.

Everything was jumpy and jerking, the mouse although setup as instructed was all over the place making the program very difficult to use.

Sounds to me like an X configuration problem, and probably easily fixed. (Perhaps you have both evdev and mouse trying to run at the same time?)
You could google (eg) jumpy mouse in puppy linux;
or start a new thread here, or in the Puppy forums.

You know with Linux it is possible to have more than one DE(Desktop Envinroment) or WM(Window Manager)
Actualy you can have as many as you want as far there is room in your drive.
There are two nice distros that goes on USB sticks:
Slitaz
Tinycore
Those are very lightweight and fast.
