Hey B1ackhawk, i've been through the same problem as you did, with your HP Pavilion zv5000. I have the same Laptop, same graphics card, using Ubuntu and freezing from time to time (pissing me off). i've seen that you solved the problem, and i've tried to follow your steps (on downloading/installing the RPM for the driver Xorg (?)), but failing to find that file, in every mirror that i find it it's unavailable. is it possible for you to send it to me, or post a link to the right one? i'm a little newbie in linux/ubuntu, so it would help too if you nominate any steps that you find important.
i appreciate any help/reply in advance, and sorry for the bad english
for any "quicker" communication, you can e-mail me to mtiago.sh@gmail.com (sorry if this isn't allowed on forum(?)), and thank you again.
awaiting reply
Peace out!
@EDDY1 - thanks, but that isn't what i was talking about. B1ackhawk in post #16 really said that he "made it", but it wasn't because of the link on post #15, he explains what it is, including the driver from Xorg that he downloaded (a .RPM file that he later converted to .DEB to use on Ubuntu), wich is the file i'm looking for! I've already tried the solution at post #15. Thanks anyway.
Still needing help!!
Appreciate it
Wow, Haven't been here in a long time . I got the email notification of this thread. Anyway, to whoever asked. I read online that a bunch of the older graphics chips which includes the 9000IGP that we use was moved to legacy section. I tried finding the drivers on ATI's website and no avail. At the time I started this thread, they were still officially available. Try websites like cnet or download.com to get the driver for linux_X86.
I used a non-gui tool called Alien. It was relativly simple. Since the graphics driver for 9000IGP was only available as a .rpm file, i used ubuntu so i need .deb. Basically using alien you give it the path of the current file and it converts from .deb to .rpm and vice versa . Here some links I found that tell you exactly what to do.
Hey again there guys!
I think i might say that the PROBLEM is SOLVED!
As for what i did, i simply downloaded what EDDY1 told me to, in the link he provided 3 posts before this.
I installed the drivers and.. After several hours of use the laptop didn't freeze! I've been using the laptop regularly and didn't freeze either.
As for B1ackhawk solution, i'm sorry but i didn't test it, because i thought (well) that the driver from EDDY1 would solve the problem, and it did, at least for me.
I want to thank you all for the help!
If there are people reading this who also solved their problem, it's allways good to know, so post!
Peace to all, thanks.
