I'd really like to go 64-bit on one of my machines, but my problem is limited hard disk space. What's the minimum required for a multilib setup? And how much more (on average) could one expect for every new package installed (for the additional libraries i.e.)? I know it'd be different for each program, but what kind of increase (roughly in percentage values) in required disk space are we looking at? Say for example gcc. Also, is there an appreciable improvement (in user time) when running test suites for programs like Berkeley DB?
