to build SOHO network when soem of teh pc's cant acces the net
i was suggested by a friend to help build him a small network.
I'm not much of a sysadmin but i do love to learn this stuff so i thing I'll give it a shot
as far as setting mail, ftp, and other services i think i can manage.
what i really has no clue of with where to begin is how to make this:
there are foot computers, 2 of them need to access the net and 2 should not.
of course, all of the PC's should be able to talk to the main server (the ftp, mail , file sharing server)
so, where is my starting point?

No idea what a "foot computer" is. And we can't tell you where to start, since you've given very little detail.
If the only thing you're missing is Internet access, look into installing Squid. Block the two computers from net access, and let the other two through.
