Linux Lab and Exercises - Sources - Please Help

Hello everyone,

I am a Linux newbie and would like to have some exercises to practice what I am learning.

I don't know if you are acquainted with the book "RH033 Red Hat Linux Essentials", but if you are, then these are the types of exercises I am looking for. Unfortunately, I don't have this book, I just saw a few examples of what they have :-(

Do you know of a website or any other source from where I can take similar exercises for practicing?

I am reading a lot of info, but without something to help me put theory into practice, I feel I can't really absorb anything.

I really appreciate your help!

I'm not familiar with this Red Hat book, but here's something I used to teach myself how to use Linux a few years ago:

It doesn't consist of exercises, but it explains how to get stuff done under linux with the commands for you to try out. It also gives the impression of being a bit dated and focuses on the command line, but if you want to be really productive under linux, then you need to learn exactly that. I found it very helpful.

Hi Ahmed! Thanks, I do use linux.org quite a lot and you are right, it is helpfull indeed - BUT - I still lack the putting into practice part. For me it is very very hard to learn theory without exercises to follow up - my brain just doesn't absorb stuff that way :-(

If anyone else knows about a place from where I can get LABs/exercises, I would be extremely grateful.

I have read few Linux books. I am not aware of "RH033 Red Hat Linux Essentials" and the type of exercies in this text book.

Long back I was also in the same situation. There are lot of good tutorials available in net to Practice, which helped me a lot.

I find I learn by doing stuff too.

Why not give yourself an aim: "Setup a webserver securely"

then find out how to do it!

and another way is read LQ and solve question at your end asked by newbie.
Because here you find variety of question/problems faced by use.
