I found that PekWM has some issues regarding De-Iconifying OpenOffice and using Yakuake on multiple desktops, so I tried switching to xfwm4. Because it has optional compositing, I decided to try transparency for fun, and it works great.

/me has decided that ext4 is ready for the big time. I've been using it on /boot and root partitions for a year, without a hiccup. Now it's time for new installs to use it for /home. I've been using ext3 for /home, felt safer with an older and more trusted fs. Installed my first ext4 /home yesterday. No looking back.

Hmm, X just restarted on me for no reason, and very randomly.
Xorg.0.log only showed it unloading modules and closing the log;
dmesg showed that all usb lost power or were reset, but the computer didn't!
chkrootkit reported no problems...

Hmm...strange.

Oh well, anyways, ext4 is actually pretty fast. I'm going to give reiserFS a chance, and see if I like it. If I don't, I may stick with ext4.

/me is sick with a common cold, and has an unremovable HDD screw.

And also, don't you hate it when you spend an hour to solve somebody else's problem and then not have them reply?! This is happened three times to me in the last couple days! What the heck?!

Something really nasty happened to my Arch Linux just now and I don't know why...

I was switching through Xfwm4 themes when suddenly Kate crashed and brought down X with it.

I started X back up, and Xfwm got hung up, I had to switch to another VT and run "killall X". I tried replacing xfwm4 with pekwm (but still with xfce4-panel) in .xinitrc, same thing. I deleted all my Xfce config files and tried again. The mouse didn't even move. The keyboard didn't work, not even the keyboard light would come on and I couldn't switch to another VT. I was forced to use the Reset button and hope it wouldn't ruin my hard drive.

It booted up fine, I purged all xfce4-related packages just in case while still in CLI mode, and I ran "xinit /usr/bin/pekwm" and I got into a working GUI, from which I an posting now.

I wonder what went wrong?

I usually reboot after X crashes as it usually messes up the memry pretty bad.

OH, NO!!!

I closed a window and X froze again! The window's close button just stayed presses after I let go of it!

I killed X from another VT and am now posting from the command line using Lynx.

I installed and ran "rkhunter" and it warned that I might have Adore Rootkit. What should I do?

Sorry to hear about it - your system must have been exposed to 'sycamore virus'

I posted a thread about this in the Linux - Security forum.

I am currently running X with TWM, and trying to remember not to close any windows, just in case .
