grub.iso vs isolinux.iso Differences, Uses, and Advantages?

OK, basically, are there any advantages to using either a grub.iso using grub stage2_eltorito or a isolinux.iso using isolinux to boot?

Thanks

Using grub.iso you can boot other installed OS as well as that in the cd.
But with isolinux.iso you can boot the installed linux or other boot images.

OK, but why don't more iso's come as grub-bootable
Does isolinux have an advantage over grub booting a cd?
Most all Distro's use isolinux, but why?

hi

I have built mini iso images as per links but how I documented it might give you a clue as to why devs are not going to spend that much time learning how to do it?

grub-legacy way is

http://www.sidux.com/index.php?modul...ka&tag=Gfxmenu

I have not populated the other folders /bin /etc/ etc...etc. as sidux site actually frowns on any posts that show how to remaster sidux.....and they ask instead ppl to become involved with the sidux project....and I respect their wishes.

grub2 is a wee bit harder for the beginning but easier to mod once you have eltorito images

http://www.sidux.com/index.php?modul...&tag=Grub2iso1

Making your own eltorito...grub2 image
http://www.sidux.com/index.php?modul...a&tag=Grub2elt

2) The documents at grub legacy on how to do above is very limited as I am sure you know.

3) AFAIK I have the only wiki on how to do it with grub2....to a sufficient level to allow users build their own isos.

As I know you have built iso images....forgive me while I speak to all readers...
The lack of documentation makes it harder for devs to adopt to grub2.

grub2 does not currently work on ext4.

so in summary...IMHO it is time to read and test using grub legacy or grub2 that is reason

4) Since I know you use grub...a grub iso...has one great advantage over any effort that isolinux can put out....
you can use the grub iso to trouble shoot...or use manual commands to install or repair....depending on whether you populated the iso with sufficient grub legacy or grub2 files.

Thank you, I will check it out now,
I have made a couple tinycore grub iso's

They work great on my pc's and are only 50MB (mini-cd)
I don't know if they work on other pc's, you know the disclaimer.

lol well at least you have some skills.

I did peek at your distro but um I am not interested in building from scratch.

But I am interested in minimal distros and am curently playing with slitaz. It uses lxde. and isos are only 30 megs but have heaps of stuff on them....in the same fashion as puppy and DSL.

good luck

Yes, however Tinycore is the New DSL; founded by the man who started MyDSL, wrote the DSL book etc.
Tinycore at 30MB's easily has flash9, firefox, OSS, Gimp2, and more.
Great thing is you add only what you want, which can be unistalled at any time.

DSL is basically a dead distro.
Slitaz is cool too, very nice to be small.

There is also TTYLinux which is like 5MB, but no X.
