Need help ASAP problam with puppy/windows 98?!?

Hello here is my low down on what is happening i bought some CD-R to download puppy linux onto to put onto my old laptop which has windows 98 on it. i download the file and burn it onto the disk and go into the bios and change it to read the cd rom drive first then it restarts and it tell me windows tried to start up but couldn't so go into one of the following 6 modes *safe mode command prompt normal etc* so i click on normal and i just go into windows as normal. I have magic ISO installed and it says its bootable and yet i cant boot it. I really need help here so if ANY one has any ideas/help i would greatly appreciate it!!

You did check the md5sum for the downloaded iso?

What application did you use to burn the cd image to cdrw with? The iso image needs to burn as a cd image iso file. Since it is a rewritable cd, you can reburn it if you incorrectly burnt it the first time.

Sorry in advance if this seems obvious.

What method did you use to burn the ISO file?

Did you burn it as "DATA" or did you use an ISO burning program?

If you burned the ISO as "DATA" it won't work.

As bapigoo9 said you need to burn the ISO as an image with an ISO burning program.

Magic Iso is a image burning software application. But you must follow proper procedures to do so. A good tutorial.

You may need to slow the burn speed down. Make sure to compare the md5sum for the original iso to the downloaded iso.

I would check the md5sum. If you downloaded the cd/dvd iso then be sure to check the md5sum for the original iso. From the cli;

~#cd /downloadisolocation      #cdromiso.iso cdromiso.md5 

~#md5sum -c cdromiso.md5       #substitute the correct name to check

If the iso md5 is ok then you should try 'CdromMd5sumsAfterBurning''.

This way you will know if the burn was OK!

This will check the download iso with the known md5sum that you also get with the iso.

From Windows, open the CD and see if there are multiple files and folders---if there is just one file, ending in .iso, then you fell into the classic trap. Burn a new CD as already discussed.
