Hello everyone! New to Linux and I'm really trying to like it but IT"S GIVING ME AN ANURISM! AHHHHHHHH! I'm sure someone out there knows my pain and frustration. I just installed Trix Box on my note book and I want it to be my primary OS It boots up Then I logon As Root. Then NOTHING! Just a command line. I tried everything I allready know about linux by using every start command I could think of I know each OS Is different. Hoping someone out there knows what command or solution I seek.
Trixbox really isn't a good choice as a general purpose Linux OS. It's really meant for people who are running asterisk and know it inside and out... Try something more "generic" like SuSE/Ubuntu/whatever...
Ok the x thing doesn't make sence to me because I'm currently using slax live cd and I use startx command to use it and nothing is installed at all? I don't understand. Where do I find this x that needs to be installed?
I'd love to use UBUNTU instead But there is a major problem. I downloaded the ISO and made an ISO disk for UBUNTU when it starts to install it says two things/ [197.11200] buffer I/O error on device fDO. logical block, and [235.216000] buffer I/O error on device fDO. logical block. The OS continues to load and runs in live mode. When I click install It takes hours and hours to do anything 6 hours in it's only on step 3 of 7 and gets hung up on the partitioning part??? Any sugestions?

Try SuSE instead. I've had a lot better luck getting that to run on various machines versus Ubuntu. If that doesn't work, try a couple others... Unfortunately, I've found a lot of variation in distros as to what they will and won't run on.
