X Includes Problem

Hiya all,
I am trying to compile an application I downloaded from the net.

I am running redhat 7.3

I go to the directory that has the application source in it and type

./configure

and get the following error

Checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes.  Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

so I downloaded XFree86-4.2.0-72.src.rpm and installed it.

I do the configure thing and I still get the same error.

How do I add the directory where XFree86 Source got installed to my path (and have I installed the right thing?)

Try /usr/X11R6/include maybe the version number will be different but thats where it is on mine. Similarly /usr/X11R6/lib is where the libs are at.

I tried this command

./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include

(which exists) but I still get that error. ("add the correct paths" how do I find my includes?

you need to add the libxfree86-devel package

I worked out that I needed to download the xdevel package. Given I run redhat I got it in RPM form.

the package I downloaded was xdevel-4.2.0-187.i586.rpm

That solved the x includes problem (I also hacked around with my path a little, and while I do know that on its own, the path didn't fix the problem - I can't definitively state whether it was purely the xdevel package that fixed the problem, or a combination of xdevel and the path)

I got it from RPMFind (rpmfind.net) I actually used an RPM for Suse, but it all seemed to be OK
