Sabayon Sulfur Mirrors and nvidia

Hey guys

ok im fairly new to sabayon and so far its impressive. for out of the box and i was wondering a phew things

1) How can i setup sulfur to use an australian or local mirror to update. so i can maximum speeds. ive tried mirrorsort and i cant get a local mirror. so im abit lost there

2) How can i find out what graphical drivers the system is using, and setup the latest nvidia drivers - the most simplest way

1. mirrorsort reorders mirrors based on response time so that gives you maximum speed.

2. [code] eselect opengl list
[1] ati
[2] nvidia *
[3] xorg-x11
The asterisk shows the driver being used by the system. To change drivers use:
[code] eselect opengl set 2
for nvidia. To see which version just use equo search from the command line.

Im in Australia. Optus has a very fast up to date mirror but everything I have tried results in the package manager using some other far distant mirror.

Anybody got an answer yet?

Edit /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/entropy_sabayon-weekly. If you put your preferred mirror first, it will be checked first but if there is any delay it will proceed down the list (depending on response time). If you only want it to use one mirror, comment all the others out. If you save a copy before editing you can just delete all the other mirrors. Then if something goes wrong you can just copy it back.

and first you should check if on that australian mirror, optus, is mirrored sabayon linux distro!
sabayon is not debian or fedora and is many high speeed metropolitan mirrors who do not have dozens of lees popular distros but only the top of linux herd

so, you can have gentoo distro mirrored but not sabayon! because gentoo is .. gentoo!

if is not mirrored you can try to persuade optus admins to add sabayon distro to other distros ...

if is mirrored still can be a missing entry in /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/entropy_sabayon-weekly if that mirror is not announced to sabayon developers!

if this is the case then at first the mirror need to be put manually as a new text line in entropy_sabayon-weekly like other entries with mirror.optus.net/sabayon/entropy

to do that do yourself a little favor and use GNU Midnight Commander! GNU Midnight Commander is the king when you need to edit config files and you are a linux newbie!

the you can try a equo repo mirrorsort sabayon-weekly if that mirror is really the fastest mirror available! if it is that manually added entry will keep the first position on the list after mirrorsort test is over

and now remains one last thing, sabayon distro developers announced about this new mirror, and and official request to be included in the list of mirrors used by entropy in the next version of sabayon linux distro

Thanks for your helpful advice totedati!
Hmm.. Optus has a directory containing Sabayon stuff again at the time of this posting but it seems broken/incomplete. I asked lxnay to remove it from the official mirror list for now.
I'm not using Sabayon any more.
Switched to OpenSUSE instead.

Regards & thanks,
Chris
