package manager sulphur and install capabilities gone

Got a magazine dvd of sabayon 5.4 and installed it on a 64bit system with a navidia internal graphics arrangement. First update was done via sulphur gui and all was well with updates/upgrades for about a week then, after one particular upgrade it ceased to show sulphur and would not install anything under the graphical equo.
I elected to reinstall and do the first update from the CL, this would not complete, I got the impression it was trying to convert 32bit to 64bit while trying to update and perhaps my connection, and or, hardware could not cope (2gb ram, amd 5050) but never a problem with debian/centos,etc.
I did like the initial results but my question, is (as have wiped the original out of frustration) it worth reinstalling the 32bit version or will I have the same problem and does navidia always pose a problem, not to mention the chipset (GeForce 7025 / nForce630a) ?
Sabayon is billed as an easy to use version of Gentoo but the ease seems to be relative.

My experience has been that Sabayon is very nice once you know Gentoo.

I have never had a problem with a 64 bit install on 64 bit hardware such has you describe. OTOH, Sabyon's packages are larger than most, and downloads can take a while as the servers are generally in the EU.

Your original problem sounds like Entropy got hosed by a Python update. I've forgotten to run `python-updater` a few times and done that to myself through Portage. It's important to remember that Sabayon is Gentoo once you get under the hood.

I've never had a problem with nvidia's drivers, and I hear that the open source ATI drivers are much improved. Sabayon ships with both, so the card you happen to have shouldn't matter.
