How to speed up Sabayon boot

I have a rather old pentium with 512 MB RAM..Till Sabayon 5.3 , it was loading okay...Now When I try to boot the live CD of 5.5 (KDE) , the system simply takes a walk. I have to press the off button as it takes ages to even show the startup screen ...

It stops at this stage

"Waiting to start the Graphical configurator..."

If i remember, that message in sabayon means its about to start your gdm/kdm login.
You could try disabling it from autostarting (boot into a tty console). Or in your case with the livecd boot into console mode, and try manually running `startx' from there.

Worth a try.

Or you can change the default init level to 3, and manually init to 5. That's what I do on my laptop.

Edit /etc/inittab and change the runlevel from 5 to 3. That is all it takes. After you modify your inittab, each time you power up, you need to manually type init 5 to take you to your X server. Enjoy.
