External Hard Drive Not Detected
I just installed sabayon gnome 6. Everything works great except that I have a WD Mybook external hard drive that isn't detected/recognized. When I plug it in, the preinstalled software, WD Smartware, is detected, but the drive itself isn't? Thanks for any help that you can give.

Not sure what you mean about the software being detected, as Smartware is a Windows program and obviously won't do anything on Linux. What exactly happens when you plug it in? A window popping up with the WD software listed is probably the file manager showing the contents of the drive, which would mean it is working.

I just looked at the specs for MyBook.
Am I correct in thinking that it is some kind of network device, rather than a USB, SATA, or SCSI device? |
What my drive is is just an external with ac adapter that connects to my laptop via usb cable. Sorry about my choice of words, I mean when I go to my file manager, Smartware is in the list under the places panel, but the drive itself isn't put there. When I was using Salix Xfce, both would be put on the places panel in the file manager. Here is my external hard drive: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=240
