Question parallel computing


I am doing project on parallel computing, and i used rocks cluster for cluster setup while doing that have two problems

1. It doesn't recognising mpich, so i installed mpich1.0.3 after installing when i restart the systems whole system get crashed....I tried this 4 to 5 times.
2. next aim is doing parallel sorting algorithms. i am doing
parallel merge sort,parallel bitonic sort,parallel odd even transposition sort,quick sort algorithms. But i dont know how to start the algorithmic part. so please send me some example algorithms or some guidelines to solve above 2 problems.
