XMMS Output plugin error... help!!

I tried to play some MP3's on my system, of course i've already downloaded and installed the MP3 plugin ('cause red hat doen't allow me to play this kind of files)

BUT NOW, i got a little windows telling me that i have a problem with my output plugin, what can be happening here? Does anybody knows?

open the Preferences dialog by pressing "Ctrl+P" and look in the little box that says "Output Plugin." Try changing it to something different.

Ok, I have a similar issue -- I have tried ALL the output plugins ... (am on RH8) I get some output (distorted weird deep bass sound) But Uhm no music ... I can play cd's alrighty... Oh and the popup window about something bad with the output (oh yeah it is there)

Love,
MW

I'm pretty sure RH8 uses OSS, so the OSS plugin *should* work. Look at the output of "lsmod" to make sure you're using OSS. If that doesn't work, start the esound daemon with "esd" and try the esound output plugin.

Thanks -- esd was already running -- OSS is unfindable - am sure that that is the problem
I had been using RH for over 2 yrs, but never bothered with the sound stuff.. And it always worked fine until I started using this laptop (it is haunted I tell ya)

Again, Thanks spuzzzz

you could try playing music with mplayer (http://mplayerhq.hu). It has a lot of output plugins that you can invoke with "-ao <output>" That might let you see which output methods work and which methods don't. You can do "-ao help" for a list of plugins
