Wont reboot or shut down

Hi I am running Centos 4.2 (RHEL 4.2)

I am using an Asus p5s800-vm motherboard, which seems to have a problem with redhat 9 up.

The problem is I can't get the system to reboot, services shutdown and then it says restarting and just hangs.

I have done everything that I can think of.

I did find a forum where someone had this exact problem with this motherboard using redhat 9. Everyone on the forum told him to upgrade to fedora or centos to fix the problem.

He eventually fixed it but there are no detail on how he did it. Being that I have the same problem with Centos 4.2. It is not a matter of upgrading.

What I have done.

Disabled acpi at boot
disabled apci
disabled amp

disabled all onboard pereferals in bios execpt onboard video and nic.
tried a different power supply.

I am sure it is just a matter of tweaking the kernel or somthing but that is byond what I know how to do.

Please if anyone can help the Centos forum is great but it takes days to get a response.

I had a very similar problem, but with different hardware. I solved the problem by changing the resource control assignment within the BIOS from ESCD to manual (non-plug'n'play) , and enabling ACPI in the BIOS (Linux boots with ACPI off).
