windows applications crashing on wine?
 

Hi,
Operating system is Redhat 6.0,wine version 1.5.4
after installation of wine. I installed km player,gom player, samsung Pc studio.

They installed successfully but
Players r running but not playing media files.

Samsung pc studio is running but when i choose any option in samsung pc studio pc logoff.

Is there any way to work these appns properly without erros.Please help me to solve these.

Probably be easier to use native apps for those.
Mplayer, Xine, Totem, Ogle, Banshee, mencoder, ffmpeg, and a score of others will play media, capture streams, stream over network, etc.

Not every microsoft app will run in wine.

According to appdb, KMPlayer does not play media files under Wine.

Samsung PC Studio has a garbage rating, which means it doesn't function at all under Wine.

Are you saying that when an application crashes in Wine, it logs you out of Linux?

I hope you just mean that the application crashes. (I'm not familiar with Samsung PC Studio.) But if a crashing application under Wine can log you off of Linux--and presumably crashes any other Linux apps that are running--that's a big problem.

Ok ! but i want to run samsung pc studio at least because i use internet through it and dont want to use windows anymore

From what I read, PC Studio is more of a sync program than a media program. It also allows you to use your Samsung phone as a wireless modem, which is what I assume, what you want to do.
If you need to use your phone for your internet connection, it should be possible to set your phone as a modem through it's own settings, and then simply open a terminal to control the modem. You would have to search, and learn the commands necessary. Just search for modem commands. I know that most Motorola phones honor the standard modem commands. I would think Samsung would also.
I am not sure what model of phone you use, but does it give you a "tethering" option in any of the usb settings? If you have that, then there should not be much of an issue. I have not played with tethering since Verizon is quite proud of it's network and charges (overcharges) accordingly. You would simply set the usb to tether, and connect to your computer.
If you need to sync your phone, there are most likely Linux based packages for that also. I use opensync.
Personally, I would give up on Wine unless you want to spend a lot of time working with them to make PC Studio work. It could be a long time before it works the way you need. If the phone is capable of being used as a wireless modem with PC Studio, then there should be a way to use it in Linux without PC Studio.

Would a virtual machine work?

May wanna give the phone model. For instance, if you have a droid you could use something like http://code.google.com/p/azilink/ to tether with.

If your players are running but not showing anything, you may need to install codecs for windows type media files try looking at this link. Secondly I really would have to agree with teckk, that using the native Linux media players would be allot better. Personally I use XBMC

I am not that experienced with a virtual machine environment and can't answer, but the author is wanting to get away from Windows completely. Running a virtual copy of Windows would defeat the purpose. I would think that getting the phone to work in Linux the way he wants is much more important than getting the Windows software to work. We just need more specific information about the phone.
