[root@localhost tylerm]# ifonfig
bash: ifonfig: command not found
[root@localhost tylerm]# ifconfig
bash: ifconfig: command not found
[root@localhost tylerm]#
you need to login as root. su only changes your UID. su - actually loads the shell and executes the path and such. This is why you dont have ifconfig when you only su because it cant find it in the path.
