Video/Display Artifacts

This is my first Linux install. I installed Red Hat 9 and all is well except for a few problems.

1st: I have a pretty major problem with windows not completely disappearing when closed, portions of windows are left and/or garbled desktop (video drivers, res)

2nd: I installed Netscape 7.1 as root, and now it will only open if logged on as root? I made a applet, or link to Netscapes location and run Netscape but the program doesn't run (no error mess.)(when logged as root i get a message on taskbar that says "description-starting" then Netscape opens, message doesn't appear when logged on as generic user)

Gateway G6-350
Nvidia Riva128zx
CPU PII-350
Ram 128mb
Monitor is installed as Generic

I am updating all files from Red Hat Network as I write.

Thanks,
Tracey (annoyed windows guy)

Howzit

the reason why it doesn´t run is because when the install was done all the bookmarks and profiles of netscape goes to the users home dir and when u installed it was done for root and not the other users. each user will need it's own netscape dir for it to function. And yes it's not a good idea to surf the net as root . To be honest not sure if u have to install for each user or just creat a dir under user home the same as root to solve the prob.

not sure what u meant buy the first quetion plz explain futher.

Thanks for your response. I had previously fixed the problem by doing just what you suggested and installed as a "user" in /user/local

I also fixed the first problem. I had configured my video card incorrectly.
What would happen is when I would close a window portions of the window would continue to be displayed.

Thanks Again,
