Yes redhat 9 is old now
redhat 9 has glibc as below by default.
glibc-profile-2.3.2-11.9
glibc-common-2.3.2-11.9
glibc-devel-2.3.2-11.9
glibc-utils-2.3.2-11.9
glibc-2.3.2-11.9
glibc-debug-2.3.2-11.9
I thought it would be glibc issue. so i upgraded glibc. below are the updated rpms.
glibc-utils-2.3.2-27.9.7
glibc-common-2.3.2-27.9.7
glibc-profile-2.3.3-27.9.7
glibc-debug-2.3.2-27.9.7
glibc-devel-2.3.2-27.9.7
glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7
so i upgraded the rpms with rpm -Uvh it didnt had any side effect. but still useradd didnt work.
so i started to search for problem. i did the following.
ulimit -c 99999999
useradd testing123
gaved me segmentation fault. but i got the core file.
did this
[root@mail root]# file core.4673
core.4673: ELF 32-bit LSB core file Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), SVR4-style, from 'useradd'
any ideas.
