uptime dropped dramatically, but no reboot logged anywhere

Hi Guys,

This is an observation of something that I can't explain.
Its not a problem in itself.

I happen to log on to our most reliable server to check
some other issue. Just to gloat I decided to look at the
uptime. Last count was >450 days. Suddenly its 20 days!
"Huh!", thinks I, "Must have been a power outage I missed".
So I looked in messages -no sign of a reboot in there.
Eventually I looked at dmesg. Its timestamp is:
Nov 20 2008. That's 516 days ago which I feel is roughly
what I would have expected.

So the question is, "Does uptime have maximum value?".
If not then what could be going on??

Cheers,
Geoff

Redhat Linux Release 9
2.4.20-30.9
Yes. Its way old! Nothing I can do about that.
