Up2date registeration.

I am using redhat 9.I am a newbie to linux.

First of all is up2date still work and supported by redhat to get update.
(I got a reply that Up2date is no longer supported by redhat since may 2004 is it true)
if not what is it's alternative.

when I enter up2date in the shell I got this error message message.
SSL.Error: [('SSL routines', 'SSL23_WRITE', 'ssl handshake failure')]
It could be because of registeration.but
I doesn't have my product Id.
Is there any way to find it from my system.

Also I can't able to ping or telnet xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com
Is it because of that Up2date is no longer supported by redhat

Up2date works fine, but REdhat 9 is no longer supportedby Redhat coz it's quite and old release. You may get security updates from fedoralegacy or upgrade to Fedora Core (the latest if possible) or RHEL.

Then why I get SSL.Error: [('SSL routines', 'SSL23_WRITE', 'ssl handshake failure')]

It means it can't connect to the RHN servers because like I said Redhat Linux is now discontinued by Redhat and if you want updates go to the site I posted above or use Fedora or Redhat Enterprise Linux (or it's clones).
