unixODBC driver in Red Hat 5?

Hi,

My boss has suggested installing the unixODBC driver in one of our Red Hat 5 servers in order to connect to a Microsoft SQL/SERVER database (Windows server)...

Have you tried such a thing? Any disadvantage/advantage worth knowing about it?

Regards.

I've tried using unixodbc and freetds way back in 2004 and it works fine connecting on our MSSQL database server but with some limitations as far as I can remember. We also did some minor workarounds at some point. It also has a GUI and commandline support.

Maybe things have changed now, you can try it on your testing servers and find out..
