Understanding uname -a: difference between #1 SMP and #3 SMP
Hello All,
Just trying to understand what is the difference between #1 SMP and #3 SMP, when seen as output from uname -a For example: Linux zombie.domain.com 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 #1 SMP Wed Mar 5 11:37:38 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I have seen some posts with #3 SMP. It doesn't look like it depends on how many cores it has, because out 16 cores SMP boxes also show it to be #1 SMP. Is it OS/kernel specific? Thank you for any insight into this ..... ~Sonata |
I believe its the number of times that kernel has been built/rebuilt from a particular source.
