Trouble running fresh install of Red Hat 9 on clean hard drive
Okay, here's the dilemma. I've got a now clean 6GB hard drive that's being converted from Win98 SE. I first tried to set it up as a dual boot system but, I couldn't get Red Hat 9 to boot properly.
So, I used a program called PC-Inspector E-MAXX to wipe the hard drive and install RH9 as the only OS. After the install seemed to work properly, I get the same error message upon boot. The GRUB loader is apparently working properly, as Win98 worked when it was installed, but RH9 just plain dies when it tries to boot. Here are the last few lines of text that appear on the screen before it quits. Code:
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards... |
i have got same error when i tried to install redhat 8.0 to a pc.. i tried to install another hdd but it failed to boot always. then i tried to install rh9.0, it worked.. maybe the trouble is your bios. or maybe cant probe your mb chipset. so its fails.. there can be a hardware trouble..
if u have fedora 1 try it... fedora surely knows more hardware then rh9 knows |
Is there any list of hardware that's known to work with RH9? Specifically a mobo list.

i dont know if there s a hardware list for redhat 9.0.. there was a problem with my asus A7N266 mb and Redhat8.0. there was same problem. it always stoped when the kernel was loading.. then i installed rh9 on same machine, everything has worked fine.
maybe there s touble with your mb. not chipset. about 9 months ago, i couldnt install rh8 on a pc with intel lx chipset mb.. i changed the mb with same model (everything was same).. it worked. |
