Trouble adding drive with data

Hi there,

I have rebuilt a server which has 2 physical drives in it. I have installed the OS (Redhat 8.0) on one drive. The other drive has got important data on it and I connected the drive to the system once RH was installed (the drives are SCSI hotswap in an IBM server.)

When I go to mount the drive with existing data I get the following error message:

mount: /dev/sdb1 is not a valid block device

Also I do the following:

[root@myserver root]# fdisk -l /dev/sdb

Disk /dev/sdb: 254 heads, 63 sectors, 8959 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16002 * 512 bytes

Disk /dev/sdb doesn't contain a valid partition table

The interesting thing was that this drive was working fine before the rebuild. Also please note that I am not using LVM

Regards

Vaughan

I assume parted /dev/sdb print doesn't recognize a partition table either? And what about cat /proc/diskstats? Does a reboot fix this?
