Text-Book Method to Have Multiple Repos and not cause conflicts.

I may have broken a CentOS6 install with updates and I'm trying to educate myself how to have multiple repos with out problems. All I can find so far is to disable Non el6 repos while updating. Is this correct and is this all there is to it?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the safest course of action is to leave the third party repositories disabled, and only enable selectively when pulling or updating a specific package (with 'yum --enablerepo'). Check the installation/update list carefully to make sure that only the desired packages are being updated (don't use the yum '-y' option).
