Download speed: ~35kBps (
http://people.redhat.com/mnagy/squid...el5.x86_64.rpm)
Filesize: 1.6MB
Download Speed: ~10MBps (
http://192.168.0.20/xyzfile.rpm)
Filesize: 93MB
Scenario 1
OS Installed: RHEL 5.1
IP Address used: 192.168.1.40
Server used: same as above
Download speed: ~3kBps (
http://people.redhat.com/mnagy/squid...el5.x86_64.rpm)
Filesize: 1.6MB
Download Speed: ~10MBps (
http://192.168.0.20/xyzfile.rpm)
Filesize: 93MB
You might be inclined to think that my Internet link was slow or the redhat.com website was slow at the time I was testing with RHEL 5.1. That wasn't the case as downloading the
http://people.redhat.com/mnagy/squid...el5.x86_64.rpm file using my other servers running RHEL 4U4 all residing on the 192.168.1.0/24 network gave me a constant 35kBps.
