startx works for root but not users
Hi a am working with VMware 4.x and Redhat V9.x
I put the system into init 3 level till problem is fixed. I like KDE so that is the default selected during the fresh install of RH9 startx works great when login is root but when login as a user i created startx has the following errors: Failed to set up write-combinign range 0xfa00000 etc.. startkde: starting up Xlib extension "GLX" misssing on display ":0.0", etc... startkde shuting down X server shutting down i can work but i find it somewhat dangerus and silly to use root account to have KDE... during the install i did not install Gnome Cheers Alden :) |
When I had problems with it, I used xhost to solve the problem.
Code:
# man xhost Cya! |
hi xstefanox thanks tried it but that does not seem to fix the problem,,, i suspect that the video drver being picked by root is differnet than the user i am not sure that is possible but i am running out of ideas :)

hi Guys i started root and used the admin tool to make a new user and that new user works,, so somthing is messed up in the configuration but the workaround to creat a new user works well enough for now :) thanks to the people in this forum. Alden
