What does this mean?

also i have a

First,

what is this unknown bridge resource and the ide bus speed defaulting to pio 33mhz, and it saying that unkown IDE controller. and Lastly the spurious 8259A interupt IRQ7 ???

Do I need to build support for the chipset into the kernel?

This is a harmless bug in the kernel. It disappears in later versions of the kernel.

Your kernel does not have support for your IDE chipset compiled into the kernel. Therefore the kernel is using generic IDE support and using the safest possible options on the IDE chipset. This appears to be working OK. If you compiled support for your IDE chipset into the kernel then your disk accesses would probably speed up.

I recommend that you download kernel 2.4.25 from www.kernel.org and compile it to get the latest support for your IDE chipset. 2.4.25 should also get rid of the 8259 bug which, in itself, is not worth doing a kernel compile for.

I am using this system for access to a specific program. The support for this program exists only for RH7.3 but it is compatible up to RH8.0 with kernel 2.4.20. Now I have downloaded and run the NVIDIA nforce2 file from the nvidia website and attempted to compile the kernel in order to include the IDE drivers, however I am now getting the idea that obviously they are not installed or they aren't part of this file. This would explain the slow performance compared to the fedora core1 that I had working last week.

is it really just a harmless bug? got it in 2.6.4 when xircom parent inserted (configured but not in use) along with 3com vortex boomerang in use...network cannot be restarted without a reboot

heard is related to parallel printer port stuff but i dunno. I just want it gone! any help would help
